Baby Beer Company
Branding Campaign
As a designer, I am very inspired by vintage, geo-max and bad-design aesthetics, where an ever evolving platform to create styles using contemporary techniques has allowed me to produce videos that speaks to the beginner animator in me.

For this project, I have selected the branding video option as a means to hone in on my advertisement and merchandising design skills. Here, I have created a video for a fictional beer company called ‘Baby Beer’, in which I have used 8mm film to portray a storyline and set the mood for all the feelings and actions that connects us to this product.

The concept for the campaign sees a woman with bold and eccentric facial makeup acting and playing around in her home with a glass bottle of ‘Baby Beer’. The beer brand is seen in almost every shot in the hope that the visual elements will speak to the viewer what the video is about. The woman is dressed plainly with a visually similar wardrobe to a 90s esque style, which can also been seen through the set design and laid back approach of filming.

There are many visual elements in terms of animations with a strong emphasis on typography throughout the video. Namely, the brand name in the ‘Blenny’ font of Adobe Typekit and the notion of the moving type and shapes. To not distract from the brand, the type, I believe, adds a more immersive and relatable approach to the product that vocals could not bring. That being said, the overlay of music enhances the storyline of beginning, middle and end, but without any words, due to the height of sounds in the appropriate frames. The colour palette is reminiscent of tones highlighted most in 8mm film, that being soft, deep reds, and pastel blues, creating a beautiful contrast in not only colour through film but the ageless drink of beer.

To build this concept for the video I used a variety of methods including masking pathways for text to glide across and tampering with the transform tools for structure of key-frames. Key-frames were the foundations for all my scenes in the video, they allowed changes in hidden layers via opacity, positions, rotations and scaling. I also added motion tracking of a text on path to one of the scenes that moves along with the camera. This was a very challenging assessment to develop as this was my entry to Adobe AfterEffects, however, throughout the semester I have gradually come to terms with the vast content and capabilities this software has to offer and can’t wait to study further.
